Groaning is better than moaning! Mariner has a great sense of humor and it is much appreciated. We need humor in our lives!

This is a very clear and succinct overview of the generations. The problem posed at the end could be addressed if seniors and oldies returned to the idea of communes—for those who remember the 60’s. Just as hippies created or found their own families by living communally, wouldn’t it be fun for aging hippies to return to their roots? Share…[Read more]

Marty commented on the post, Does anyone have a plot line? 10 months ago
I doubt if it was ever one problem at a time. Even as Rome was burning there was the eternal question, “What’s for supper?”
The answer to the question “Can we Homos handle it?” is Yes We Can! (Wouldn’t that make a catchy political slogan?)

Marty commented on the post, On living forever 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Mariner’s wife should add that this question did not come out of nowhere. It was based on the discussion that if we age and die due to shrinking telomeres, it is possible that science will find a way to extend life through manipulation of telomeres. The problem then becomes–if everyone has the opportunity to live almost forever then how do you…[Read more]

Marty commented on the post, Your next book to read 1 year ago
Actually this book came from Allison, Colorado daughter-in-law and Millennial. She is in the midst of a working life with young children and did not have time to read it right now so sent it home with me. Only Boomers have the luxury of time to read while we continue to mess with the culture, right to the bitter end! What a good review! It is…[Read more]

Not over! Not goodbye! We need every human voice (and blog) to speak out on behalf of the human experience vs. machines, technology, corporations and autocrats. Write on, Mariner!

Wife’s nephews (cousins to son and his family). Also might note that one nephew provided the very expensive–and time intensive–catfish for one menu! I think a good time was had by all thanks to the cooperative weather.

Well, thanks for the advice–but really what can anyone do except endure the roller coaster ride? We are at the mercy of mighty forces. We always are, but sometimes the roller coaster is going up and then it seems like a good ride with a great view!

In a similar vein–I was the secretary for our church women’s group for the past three years. I kept the minutes diligently for all of our meetings and stored them in the historical file that goes back to the early 1900’s when the group started. We disbanded in December. What was the point of all those minutes? What would be the point of…[Read more]

This is a great glimpse into the life of a bygone era. Who would ever have thought that department stores would be bygone? It makes me wish that I had been a city child with hucksters (and Hutzlers!) and street cars and family all around. Thank you for sharing this!

Hi Robert–Don’t I have a great publicist? Thanks for your kind comments. I don’t know why I submitted that article to the paper–it just seemed like such an amazing confluence of connections that it took to get that tv up and running!
