    Gird thy loins, Ancient One. Let us be like Sir Andrew Barton;

    “Fight on, my men,” says Sir Andrew Barton,
    “I am hurt, but I am not slain;
    I’ll lay me down and bleed a while,
    And then I’ll rise and fight again.

    Fight on my men,” says Sir Andrew Barton,
    “These English dogs they bite so low;
    Fight on for Scotland and Saint Andrew
    Till…[Read more]

    You mean we get too soon oldt und too late schmart? I’m sorry, but I don’t think of myself as a piece of dry rot. I believe that we must be heading toward something better even when there are speedbumps (e.g., Attila the Hun, Cromwell, Hitler, ISIS, T****, et al.). It seems to me that, on a strictly biological level, evolution slowly moves…[Read more]

  • You didn’t thwart my faith or theology, in fact what you’ve been saying is, I think, right on the button. It’s good stuff. Keep it up. Your latest post about love, seems to me, says it all. Love must be the big “antibiotic” for the “germs” (racism, selfishness, bigotry, xenophobia etc., etc.) that infest our current society. But it’s really…[Read more]

  • I can accept God as a singularity, but I cannot accept that that Singularity is a mindless aimless thing. I have to believe that this Singularity is headed somewhere and we are part of this movement. That being said, I feel it is right for us to respect this Singularity. I feel that I can get in touch with the Singularity through prayer,…[Read more]

  • Thanks for this posting. A very elegant explanation. Maybe sometime you can post some thoughts on how to get from Point A (duality, materiality etc.) to Point B (singularity, being one with God). I am more and more convinced that our souls become part of God when we die, but I’d prefer not to wait until then.

    “God is not directly a separate thing.” I don’t quite understand this. Are you saying that God is simply a feeling we get by empathizing with others? I can’t buy this. Maybe I got this wrong. I hope so. Did this feeling push the button that set off the Big Bang?

    I can still picture her in the choir. I didn’t know her background, but I do remember seeing her around the church in many different places.

  • I must comment on this. First of all about the statement that it wasn’t until the Iron Age that man had the materials to build up. Not quite sure what this meant, but it’s certainly not accurate at least for England. Consider Silbury Hill in Wiltshire, England. It’s a neolithic monument, roughly 4000 years old, the tallest man-made mound in…[Read more]

  • You paint a bleak picture, Mariner. Sadly I think things in this country may be worse than even you predict. I have been unable to watch TV news or listen to radio news and just glance at headlines in the paper since the day of infamy on 8 November. I don’t know how I am going to get (oh, sorry) through the next 4 years watching our country…[Read more]

    I could not agree with you more. I am still numb after Tuesday night. Will try to keep calm and carry on, but I don’t think it will be easy. I haven’t watched any TV news or listened to anything but classical music on the radio for three days.

  • Sad but true. I Hope we will see Citizens United struck down in the next administration. I really liked the word “centrist” used in this blog. We are far too polarized. There seems to be a lack of reasonableness across all facets of our society. The fanatics on both ends of the spectrum cause the problems. Maybe if we move to a central…[Read more]
